The 15th Lecture of the South Lake Foreign Language Forum:Associate Professor Zhou Hongbing Gave a Lecture in School of Foreign Language (SFL)

Accordingto the requirement that professional teachers shall periodically conduct professionalstudy and the study arrangement of the English Department this term, associateprofessor Zhou Hongbing was invited to give a special lecture themed“Experience Sharing in the Construction, Operation and Promotion of MOOC on theafternoon of 3rd December. He is an associate professor of Foreign LanguageInstitute of Hubei University and an expert and judge of the Ministry ofEducation in evaluation of top blended-learning courses and theinformation-based teaching of foreign languagesThe lecture was held in No.10 TeachingBuilding, in which all teachers were present with Director Liu Xin as the host.

Atthe beginning of the lecture, Professor Zhou noted that in the information age,online-offline teaching was the future trend of the classroom learning, andthat the innovative foreign language teaching of MOOC and SPOC played a vitalrole in it. Based on his personal experience, he elaborated on the goal, basicprocess and thoughts of MOOC.

Fromthe perspective of finding, asking and exploring the way, Professor ZhouHongbing shared concrete methods in constructing, operating and maintaininggold online-offline courses, as well as experience in the application forfirst-class courses. With regard to personal thoughts, he held thatpreservation was the key to a promising, interesting and refined course.

Theatmosphere of the lecture was warm. Teachers from SFL had an in-depthdiscussion with Professor Zhou Hongbing based on limitations in their teaching.After the lecture, Director Liu Xin and Deputy Director Wang Shuang of EnglishDepartment jointly hosted a seminar themed “the Construction of First-classCourses”. During the seminar, based on the lecture content and previouslearning in the serial study activities on how to facilitate students toutilize class resources and to integrate learning both inside and outside theclass, all teachers in the English Department actively discussed on thespecific construction of different courses. They expressed their opinions andexchanged views on related courses construction, in the hope of enhancing thequality of the courses. Finally, they all agreed to construct “refined” coursesby focusing on the features of English learning and create “gold” courses withconcerted efforts.

Beingan important part of the theme-varied and content-rich serial study activitiesof English Department this term, this lecture and study seminar aimed to reacha new high in the construction of English major by taking the construction ofcourses as an opportunity.
