The SFL gives priority to the teaching and learning of undergraduates. Under the guideline for overall development of the university, the SFL attaches great importance to developing its own characteristics, taking as its core task the cultivation of high quality English professionals who will well serve the society. To ensure the quality of education of undergraduates, it requests all its professors and associate professors to teach specialized courses to undergraduates.

As regard to the construction of courses, the course of Comprehensive English was graded as collegiate Excellent Course in 2006 and Provincial Excellent Course in 2007; the course of British & American Literature as collegiate Excellent in 2008; the course of Reading Skill Training and Translation theory and Practice as collegiate Excellent in 2009. The major of English Language and Literature is titled as the brand major of SCUN in 2010. The Self-study Centre is awarded as the Provincial Model Centre in 2010.

Undergraduates of the SFL, due to their high quality and adaptability to the need of society, have gained a good reputation and recognition of the job market. And many ambitious graduates go on further study in many prestigious universities at home and abroad.
