Professor Yao Shanghai Came to School of Foreign Languages to Deliver Spirits of Central Work Conference on Ethnic Affairs

According to arrangements of Party Committee of SCMZU, School of Foreign Languages held the lecture on studying and carrying out the spirit of Central Work Conference on Ethnic Affairs (CWCEA) IN the International Hall of Academic Exchange Center on the afternoon of November 18th. Yao Shanghai, one of the experts of introducing spirits of CWCEA in SCMZU, and dean of Academy of Community for the Chinese Nation gave a thematic guidance report. All the faculty and staff of our college attended this meeting, which was hosted by Dai Yingfeng, secretary of the party committee of the college.

The theme of Yao Shanghai’s report was “New Dimensions of Theoretical Research on Creating a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation — Some Thoughts Based on the Central Work Conference on Ethnic Affairs”. Starting from the convening of CWCEA, Yao Shanghai illustrated the importance of current ethnic affairs. He believed that we should learn, comprehend and carry out the spirit of the meeting well. Then, based on three aspects of creating a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation: major original scientific statements, several cognitive issues in theoretical research, and key contents of theoretical research, he gave a systematic and comprehensive summary on the development process of the theory of community for the Chinese nation, pointed out its historical position, stressed out the significance and practical needs on creating a strong sense of it. Also, he pointed out the research orientation on ethnic affairs ideology under the guideline of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

Yao Shanghai said, “Creating a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation is the major demand and deployment for our party to take a long-term perspective to consolidate and develop ethnic unity so as to achieve the national rejuvenation. He emphasized that we should draw valuable experience from the party's work of national affairs over the past century, taking “eight persistence”( We should persist in being with the people, following our own path, grasping well the most important task of development, carrying out reform and innovation, the path of peaceful development, building the CPC well, being modest and prudent, guarding against arrogance and impetuosity and the banner of unity) “nine bearing-in-mind” and “ twelve musts” (twelve principles related to ethnic affairs put forth by Xi Jinping) as our fundamental and action guidelines in our teaching, scientific research and management and other aspects of work, as it seeks to strive for promoting quality and efficiency of ethnic affairs as well as high-quality development.

At the end of the report, Dai Yingfeng made a summary that Professor Yao's report has a deep thinking on different theories and a strong sense of problems, which provide us with a lot of valuable and useful information, ideas and methods in teaching practice, the direction scientific research, student management and other aspects. On behalf of the college, the teachers should continue to study and think with the content of the lecture and express sincere gratitude to Professor Yao. The thematic report was successfully concluded.
