December 1st, 2020 is the 33rd World AIDS Day with the theme of "Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibility". In the background of the global fight against COVID-19 pandemic, the theme aimed at emphasizing enhancing solidarity and collaboration and responsibilities of governments, all departments, the whole society and individuals, so as to meet the challenges of such epidemics as COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS and fight against HIV/AIDS together. By doing so, we can work together to achieve the goal of HIV/AIDS prevention and control and build a global community of health for all.

Since its establishment in May, 2011, Volunteer Service Team against AIDS and Drug Control” of the Youth Volunteer Association has participated in the activities of HIV/AIDS prevention and control for nearly a decade. The team always upheld the spirit of volunteerism “Dedication, Friendship, Mutual aid and Progress”. By taking Hongshan District as the working area, it carried out science popularization education in colleges and communities.

The service team has carried out various kinds of activities, including hiking, East Lake cycling, fluorescent night run, design competition, community advocacy, HIV testing, so as to inform people of the harm of HIV/AIDS and the significance of HIV/AIDS prevention and control,and popularize the knowledge and skills of preventing HIV/AIDS infection, and advocate the public to actively participate in HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. In addition, according to the situation of HIV/AIDS prevention and control in China, the service content is being constantly enriched, adding sex education, for example, in order to better carry out HIV/AIDS prevention and control nationwide.

In the past ten years, the team was reported by CCTV, Guangxi News Network, Cnhubei Network, Sohu Network, China Youth Network, “Your Voices Our responsibilities” Network and other media. It received support and help from Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Wuhan Municipal Committee of Communist Youth League of China, Wuhan Municipal Public Security Bureau East Lake High-tech Development Branch, South Central University for Nationalities Hospital and other organizations.

 In addition, the team has won many awards in various competitions. In 2014, it was awarded "The Excellent Volunteer Service Organization in Wuhan". In 2016, it successfully applied for the small funding project for HIV/ AIDS and drug control of the Central Committee of Chinese Communist Youth League. In 2018, the team was selected for “The National Youth Drug Control and HIV/AIDS Prevention Publicity and Education Project”, and won the silver award in "The 4th Voluntary Service Project in Hubei Province". From 2015 to 2018, it has won "The Excellent Organization of HIV/AIDS Prevention Publicity in Campus in Wuhan" for four consecutive years. In 2019, it was awarded "The Outstanding HIV/AIDS Volunteer Service Team in Wuhan". In the same year, it won the honorable mention in "The Volunteer Service Public Welfare Project Competition for Undergraduates in Hongshan District" and was awarded as "The Excellent Organizer of the 4th HIV/AIDS Prevention Knowledge Contest for College Students".

In the past decade, the team has actively responded to the call of the CPC Central Committee on HIV/AIDS prevention and control and implemented the Outline of "Healthy China 2030", and met the requirements of "China's 13th Five-year Action Plan for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control".
