Founded in April 2001, the predecessor of Law School of South-Central  MinZu University  can be traced back to the year of 1952, the early days of the establishment of the university. Law school is one of the time-honored educational institutes of the university, which was reconstructed in 1981 and started to establish departments, i.e. department of political science and undergraduate major, i.e. politics. 

Since 1990, the undergraduate major of law has come to reality and has been renamed as Politics and Law Department, Department of Law. There used to be many undergraduate majors in this university such as Politics, Administration Management, Law, Economic Law, Politics and Administration, Lawyer and Notarization etc. The school now has 69 faculty members and 58 professional teachers, of whom 13 are professors, 31 are associate professors, 36 are master tutors and 20 of them own qualification of lawyers. Among all the professional teachers, 49 of them own Master degree or above and 45% of them own doctor's degree; 1 of them receives special government allowance from the State Council, 1 of them is honored as the expert with outstanding contribution granted by State Ethnic Affairs Commission; 1 of them is rated as the young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Hubei province and is selected as high-level talent in the new century; 1 of them received special government allowance of Hubei provincial people's government; 1 of them is awarded "provincial famous teacher" in Hubei province; 1 of them is elected as the provincial labor model of Hubei province; and one of them is honored as provincial academic leader. 

The school has made a long-term engagement of 12 part-time teachers from other universities. There are totally 1700 full-time students, 300 of whom own master degrees. The school now has two undergraduate majors such as Law and "Politics and Administration"; and it owns master degree conferrable spots for first-level discipline of Law and Chinese philosophy, including Law Theory, Economic Law, Constitutional Law and Administrative Law, Civil Law and Commercial Law, criminal jurisprudence, litigation law, Master of Law（Law）, Master of Law（non-Law）and Chinese philosophy. Legal theory is the key discipline of State Ethnic Affairs Commission; and Jurisprudence is the provincial excellent course. The school has 8 teaching and research sections and legal clinics and Legal Assistance Centers in fields such as Law Theory and Law History, Constitutional Law and Administrative Law, Criminal Jurisprudence, Science of Civil Law, Economic Law, International Jurisprudence, Litigation Law, Politics and Science of Public Administration；and it also has established, in the views of local resources, school-level ethnic legal research center, modern Chinese rule of law theory and practical academic team, market economy legal construction research team, Civil Law and Commercial Law core curriculum teaching team, theoretical jurisprudence teaching team. 

Moreover, it also has established college archives room with more than 30,000 books (periodicals). With much attention attached on the cultivation of practical ability and comprehensive quality, the school has built moot court which can accommodate more than about 300 people and is equipped with first class facilities. It established a school training platform supported by legal evidence laboratory, legal clinic and legal assistance center; in addition, it also has established 10 practice bases outside the school and tries to strengthen teaching through clinical legal education, legal consulting, legal aid, physical evidence experiment, mock trial teaching and mock trial competition, professional debate, social practice and practice teaching etc. In terms of discipline construction, the school focuses on core disciplines and highlights the national characteristics. 

Moreover, it pays close attention to local resources and hot issues, and thus the discipline construction of this school has strong academic foundation and development potential. Over recent five years, the teachers of our school have published more than 130 papers in CSSCI and published 14 books. The school takes over 1 key project of Ministry of Education, 18 national funded social sciences fund subjects, 9 Ministry of Education-funded projects, 3 social sciences fund subjects of Hubei province, 4 Ministry of Justice-funded projects, 3 supreme people's procuratorate-funded projects and 2 China Law Society-funded projects. The school has totally received 16 provincial scientific research achievement awards. The school also emphasizes academic exchanges with other universities and encourages teachers to attend various academic conferences. Some of our teachers even hold the posts as vice-chairman, executive member of the council and director etc in national or provincial professional academic societies and conduct academic exchanges and visits with universities and scientific research institution in Japan, Germany, South Korea, America and Taiwan, etc.
