Ma Yansheng, Previous Counselor of Chinese Consulate in USA Delivers Lecture in SCMZU

On the afternoon of April 26, the previous Counselor of the Chinese Consulate in the United States Ma Yansheng visited SCMZU and delivered a lecture themed by “What Competencies Are Needed to Work in International Organizations, Starting with UNESCO” in the International Hall of the Academic Exchange Center. The event was jointly held by Academic Affairs Office, Office for International Cooperation and Exchange, Graduate School and School of Foreign Languages (SFL) in SCMZU. Faculty representatives, student representatives from SFL and all the students from high-level international talents innovation class attended the event.

At the beginning of the event, Professor Ma introduced the classification of international organizations and the related international conferences. In order to better understand students’ knowledge about international organizations, Ma made interaction with them. He then elaborated some of the international organizations and their general structures, which brought better understandings about international organizations and international workers to the audience at presence.

By taking vivid examples, Professor Ma delivered his lecture in four aspects: the difficulties and challenges that faced by China to join in international organizations, the way to nurture international organization talents, the way to create access for the talents to get into the UN and the basic qualities and competences for international organization talents. He pointed out that, the biggest challenge that confronted by China to join in international organizations now was that China lacked of international talents, especially international organization talents.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Ma made a summary by emphasizing the four basic qualities of political accomplishment, professionalism, knowledge and personal quality and the four competences of foreign language skills, communication skills, coordination ability and analysis ability that needed by international organization talents.
