South Lake Environmental Forum-- Professor Zhou Ying from Southwest Petroleum University was invited to our school to give academic lectures

On the afternoon of October 18, 2021, Professor Zhou Ying, Dean of the School of New Energy and Materials, Southwest Petroleum University, gave an academic lecture entitled "Solar-Driven Catalytic Conversion Reserved Acid Gas (H2S, CH4, CO2)" for teachers and students in our college. The academic lecture was hosted by Pro. Sun Jie, more than 40 graduate students attended the lecture.

Mr. Zhou introduced the recent work of their research group in the high-value utilization of hydrogen sulfide. They designed and developed a series of manganese-based metal sulfide photocatalysts to achieve efficient capture of hydrogen energy in hydrogen sulfide, with a hydrogen production rate of 113 mmol g-1 h-1 and a quantum efficiency of 77% (440 nm). Among them, the developed chemical process of producing hydrogen and high-value sulfur products (sodium thiosulfate) at the same time has realized the high-value and clean utilization of hydrogen resources and sulfur resources in hydrogen sulfide. In addition, in terms of low-temperature conversion and utilization of methane and carbon dioxide, they proposed a new strategy for vacancy type and metal size to control the electron enrichment area and enrichment degree, and achieved a nearly 113 times improvement in the photo reduction efficiency of CO2 at room temperature; increased the conversion efficiency of methane dry reforming at 350 ℃ from 8% to 18% through thermal coupling, and increase the ratio of H2/CO (syngas) from 0.6 to close to 1.0 to achieve the direct preparation of liquids such as diesel and gasoline fuel. By combining in-situ characterization techniques and theoretical calculations, the precise application of electrons to chemical bonds has been analyzed, and the precise regulation of competitive reactions has been achieved. Professor Zhou's report is rich in content, and the theory and experiment are closely integrated. Graduate students generally said that they have benefited a lot.
