On the morning of May 7, the thirteenth lecture of the "Navigation Lecture" of the School of Marxism was successfully held in classroom 501. Zuo Yawen, Professor of philosophy and doctoral tutor of Wuhan University, was invited to give an academic lecture with the theme of "The Formation of Early Thoughts of Marx and Engels and the Study of Their Major Works" for the teachers and students of our school. This lecture was presided over by Dean Yang Jinzhou, and some teachers and graduate students of 2019 and 2020 participated in this lecture.
Professor Zuo Yawen mainly elaborated from two aspects: "the ideological logic founded by Marxism" and "the interpretation of the main works of Marx and Engels in the early days". First of all, Professor Zuo Yawen lectured on the development stage of Marx’s thought and how Marx changed from an admirer of Hegelian thought to a materialist. He believed that the development of Marx’s thought had experienced four stages of "the worship of Enlightenment thought", "hegelian believer", "Rhine News Practice" and "Realization of Two Transitions" and pointed out that the path of Engels' thought development was roughly the same as that of Marx, but the path it went through was completely different. Secondly, Professor Zuo Yawen interpreted the "Manuscript of Economics and Philosophy in 1844", "German Ideology", "Communist Manifesto" and other works one by one. Among them, he focused on explaining the basic ideas and main content of the "Communist Manifesto", and he further pointed out that the communist society is a society in which individuals are free and fully developed. In a communist society, the contradictory relationship between the free development of individuals and the free development of all people will be reconciled. The "community of free people in the future" is constantly changing, developing and improving day by day. The “community of free people in the future” reflects the highest ideals of communism that mankind pursues unremittingly. Finally, Professor Zuo had an in-depth interactive exchange with the students on issues such as "how to understand the dialectical relationship of the three reconciliations" and "how to understand the idea is the root of things".
Teacher Zeng Hongyu made a brief summary of the lecture. Professor Zuo used witty and life-oriented language to explain the profound philosophical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner, which benefited the students a lot.
