（ByGan Tianqi fromSchoolof Economics）On the afternoon of March the 22nd,Professor Huang Taiyan, former deputy secretary of the Party committee and president of Minzu University of China, was invited to give a special counselling report guiding the development of the School of Economics. Song Fajun, deputy secretary of the party committee and vice president of the university, all the leading group members of the school of economics and some teacher representatives attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Song Fajun.
Li Bo,Dean of the School of Economics, introduced the development of the School of Economics from the aspects of faculty strength, talent training, discipline construction and research platform, etc. Professor Huang Taiyan, combined with his own scientific research and management work, gave in-depth guidance on specific issues surrounded discipline development.
Professor Huang Taiyan pointed it out that the economics research in universities for ethnic minorities should clarify the discipline boundary, aim at national strategy, serve local development, use the economic discourse system to study ethnic issues, and return to the mainstream economics. In terms of discipline development, Professor Huang compared the development differences between the School of Economics of Minzu University of China and that of South-Central University for Nationalities. He suggested that we should start from a higher level of economic system and find the right direction to cultivate superior disciplines. In terms of scientific research, on the basis of discipline construction, research should be carried out around the urban agglomeration of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, the regional development of the central triangle and the practical problems of Hubei Province. It is in the course of serving the local area that the great scientific achievements could be get. In terms of team and platform construction, resources should be integrated to build an influential think tank, so as to achieve the organic unity of discipline construction, scientific research, talent training and social service. In addition, Professor Huang combined the basic principles of economics with his own research work, and illustrated the collaborative innovation and research ideas in economics from three aspects: theoretical proposition, experience summary and mathematical logic.
In conclusion, Song Fa Junstated that Professor Huang Taiyan presented valuable ideas for the development of the School of Economics on returning to the mainstream, selecting direction, building platform, constructing team, and also provided some specific and operational recommendations, which also have a very realistic guiding significance for the discipline construction and school-running thoughts of universities for nationalities. Song asked the School of Economics to recognize the changes accurately, respond scientifically, try to change initially, explore the transformation direction of discipline construction, scientific research and team construction actively.
Before the report, Li Jinlin, Secretary of the party committee of the university, President of the university, had a discussion with Professor Huang Taiyan, and further in-depth exchanged views on the issues of mutual concern in the development of the university.
