On October 12th, 2023, Shanmeng Xu, a student from Class 2103 of Chemical Engineering in our School, participated in the 6th National Civil Affairs Commission System Science Popularization and Explanation Competition as a member of the school's representative team. She won the second prize and SCMZU was awarded the Excellent Organizational Unit Award.

Xu Shanmeng has a strong interest in science popularization and hopes to do her best to use her chemical professional skills. Through vivid and interesting explanations, she can change the public's impression of chemistry as 'difficult to understand' and deliver some chemical knowledge that is closely related to people's daily lives. In fall 2022, she took the course, Science Popularization Theory and Practice, jointly offered by Prof. Haijian Yang from the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Prof. Lin Li from our college, and conducted systematic learning. In this competition, she chose the cutting-edge theme of Building Blocks in Synthesis - Click Chemistry as the topic.

One minute on stage, ten years of hard work off stage. Starting from September this year, Shanmeng Xu had been preparing for the competition. She consulted many literature materials, made word for word modifications and polished every sentence, and talked about the original intention of the competition. She said that all the efforts worth, 'To present a popular science work well and spread scientific principles to the public in a simple and profound way, it is necessary to conduct sufficient investigation and research, and then connect it with people's daily lives. Using vivid and vivid examples to arouse people's interest and let science enter people's lives.'
